English Review after the jump
In this heartwarming debut by HelloGiggles blogger Kerry Winfrey, a young agoraphobe begins a journey of first love that leads her to the true meaning of home—just by taking one small step outside of her house.

My name is Mallory Sullivan.

My therapist says I have an anxiety disorder.

My brother says I’m an “optimistic recluse.”

Everybody else says I'm a freak.

And they kind of have a point, because I haven't left the house in 67 days and only attend class via the webcam on my laptop. The person I talk to the most other than my mom and brother is the completely obnoxious BeamMeUp, and all we do is argue on New Mexico’s premiere alien message board.

But after yesterday, I have something: a chance. If I can win the homecoming crown by convincing resident hot popular guy and Friday Night Lights spawn Brad Kirkpatrick to go as my date, then maybe #stayathome will never appear next to the name @Mallory_Sullivan ever again.

First, I have to leave my room.

When I saw this book on NetGalley I was so captivated by the cover and the synopsis that I just had to request it. Although I was expecting something a little more emotional, I ended up enjoying this book.

In this book we follow Mallory's story, a girl who was perfectly normal until her father left home, which affected her so much that she stop being able to leave the house. This was the first time I read about a character who suffers from agoraphobia and I think the author did a good job exploring this theme, even if sometimes I wish for more emotion, if that makes sense.

I really liked Mallory and I could really see myself in some things she was going through. She's a 17-year-old girl who was always "normal" until the day she sees her father walk out of the house to never come back. Thereafter anxiety takes hold of her life and she can't leave her house.
As you know, I love books that address anxiety and this was one of the ways in which I could identify a lot with Mallory. I felt her frustration in wanting to do something and not being able or even when others thought that anxiety is something you can control. I really liked her in her older sister role and the many embarrassing moments that happen to her just made me laugh out loud. Still, sometimes I found this book a bit too juvenile for me.

We also get to know Lincoln, Mallory's younger brother, who turns out to have a very important role throughout the book. I really enjoyed Lincoln and his relationship with Mallory was my favorite. We also get to know Jenni, her best friend, Brad, the neighbor and the cute boy that is a part of the plan for Mallory to be prom queen, and Jake, Brad's older brother.

I felt that the characters weren't really that well developed. I liked how Mallory's character was but I felt like the other character weren't as developed as they should have been. There were many questions, especially about Jake, I would have liked to see answered but unfortunately that didn't happen. Also, as I mentioned above, the whole book sounded a little too juvenile for me, specially the characters.

As for the story, I really liked the premisse but it was a bit too predictable for me. Reading this book was exactly like watching those old Disney Channel movies I LOVE! Yup I love them but it's the kind of movie that we watch once and forget everything about it the next day. It was super fun, it made me laugh so many times, but by the halfway point of the book I had already guessed all that was going to happen in the end. It still feels good to read this kind of books but I think this turned out to be a little too predictable for my taste.

I think if I hadn't found this book so juvenile I could get over the fact that it's so predictable. Don't get me wrong, I think I would have completely adored this book if I had read it a few years ago but, for someone a little older than seventeen, the whole story about prom and social status in high school is no longer something I identify with.

I have to be honest, I would have loved the relationship between the protagonists from the beginning if I had been able to realize who I should be rooting for. Seriously, this may sound silly but it's true. Although I loved the romance, in the middle of the book there were three potential romantic interests and I was completely lost on who was the real deal, you know? I get that it's part of the story but I don't know, I was expecting some major feels and with all that was going on on the romantic side, I just couldn't really invest my time in the relationship that was forming in front of my eyes because I was always thinking if this is it or if it's just another cute moment and it's all about the other guy. I don't know, I was really lost.

Either way, the author chose to focus more on the relationship between Mallory and her brother Lincoln. This was perhaps the best relationship in the book and I loved every moment between them. The author managed to capture a normal relationship between brothers and the usual conversations that all brothers have with each other.

I loved Kerry Winfrey's writing! She's really funny and it's one of those types of books that you just spend hours reading and you don't even realise. I will certainly read other books by the author and I think that, for a debut, this is a very good book.
